Vision Structural Draughting Academy is an Authorised training partner for several internationally recognised CAD software developers. Our training curriculum is a result of over 25 years of training experience & industry feedback. The resultant courses develop our students from total novices to highly competent CAD operators with practical industry experience. The institute was initially established in 1991 with the purpose to train draughtsmen for AngloGold Ashanti. In 1997, Vision Structural Draughting Academy (formerly the Training Institute for Draughtsmen CC & Computer Aided Institute for Draughtsmen (Pty) Ltd.), opened its doors to private students as a full-time training centre.
Today we are proud to know that our graduates are stationed across the globe and regarded as the highest caliber draughtspersons. 3 Dimensional modelling has become a crucial element in all engineering fields. Engineering firms globally rely on technology to deliver groundbreaking precision designs in timeframes that would have been impossible 30 years ago. VSDA offers career-orientated training material to students to ensure they are well versed in practical work applications & projects which they will encounter after graduation. Steel detailing is the finer detailing work required for structural steel manufacturing. It entails calculating & technical drawing of each component such as bracings & mounting connections. The process produces complete manufacturing drawings for each component of the structure, final general arrangement drawings & other vital drawings & documents required to execute a successful project. For most students draughting is an extremely satisfying career. But for the restless few, it’s a fantastic steppingstone to numerous other professional career paths. Draughting can be an invaluable steppingstone for those who would later want to progress to mechanical engineering, civil engineering or project management. VSDA is proud of its graduates & is dedicated to seeing each one succeed. Through our business networks, we help to place a substantial amount of students each year. Graduate students are notified of any vacancies or opportunities on our vacancy group. Due to changing needs & the global impact of the pandemic & the various challenges faced by educators, we have moved to an online platform. Real-time classes are offered daily, with access to the lecturer for any queries, questions or assistance. The benefit of this is that students are able to work from anywhere they have access to a stable internet connection. We offer a 2-year course in Structural Steelwork Detail Draughting & an optional 3rd year, to become a competent Layout & General Arrangement Draughtsperson. Courses run from end February to November. Registration is open from 1 October. The minimum requirement is a National Senior certificate (Grade 12), with a pass in Pure Mathematics (or Mathematics NQF level 2), or a National Senior Certificate (Grade 12), with a pass in Pure or Technical Mathematics up to Grade 11 (that is if the applicant switched to Mathematics Literacy in Grade 12). Should the minimum mathematics requirement not be met upon registration, applicants will have a year to get this up to standard. This can be done after hours at any suitable college or institution. Engineering Graphics & Design (EGD) skills will be an advantage, but it is not a requirement.
