Rhodes University was established in 1904, in the small student town of Grahamstown. The university is the smallest Public University in South Africa and affords all its students a lot of academic support as a result of its lecturer: student ratio of 1:17, as well as through its extensive tutorial system available to all its undergraduates. It boasts the best Residence System, with all of its 52 residences within walking distance of all facilities on its campus. It is a traditional institution which offers its students the extremely flexible academic opportunity of allowing them to diversify subject choices within their degrees – students are able to choose subjects from across faculties to meet their interests and aspirations. Degree majors are possible in Environmental Science and Law, Economics and Geology, Computer Science and Music, Physics and Philosophy
