The Isa Carstens Academy is one of the most reputable learning institutions for students who wish to follow a career path in the skincare and wellness industry. In 1978, the Academy also became the first South African school recognised by Swiss-based CIDESCO (Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie.), an internationally recognised examining body, renowned around the world.

At Isa Carstens Academy, we approach beauty as science. From anatomy to physiology, biotics to nutrition, our highly acclaimed Somatology course takes a holistic approach when it comes to the treatment of a client, focusing on skin and body needs.

Today, alumni of the Isa Carstens Academy can be found all over the world – as owners, managers and/or therapists in wellness centres, cosmetic houses and on luxury ocean liners. They also work in the field of medical aesthetics or as lecturers.

STUDENT LIFE

It is incredibly important to us that you enjoy your studies at the Academy and experience all that tertiary student life has to offer. We want you to have fun, experience life to the fullest and meet friends who you will share memories of your time at the Academy with for many years to come.

In addition, both the Stellenbosch and Pretoria campuses are situated close to the Stellenbosch and Pretoria Universities respectively. The Academy works in close collaboration with the residences of these universities to offer students an enriched and engaging campus life.

Students at the Academy take part in a variety of cultural and social events, sports are played in partnership with the residence and students from the nearby universities also frequently get involved. We engage with the public through charitable and philanthropic initiatives and are constantly looking for ways to improve our student experience at the campuses.

At the end of the 3rd year of the Diploma in Somatology, students complete the CIDESCO International Beauty Therapy membership examination which is internationally recognized within the Beauty Industry.

Qualifications

Higher Certificate in Front Office Administration (NQF Level 5)
(120 credits) / SAQA ID: 111453
Overview: Provides a supportive role to management and Somatologists through front desk communication and administration in a salon and spa environment, while equipping students with selected practical skills. Includes either Retail Marketing or Practical Beauty and Wellness services as elective module.
Duration: 1 Year, Full-time
Admission Requirements: National Senior Certificate (NSC) or National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4

Diploma in Somatology (NQF Level 6)
(360 credits) / SAQA ID: 83046
Overview: A highly specialised field of study focusing on the integration of knowledge from theory to practice and an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the human body with emphasis on the skin.
Duration: 3 Years, Fulltime
Admission Requirements: A National Senior Certificate (NSC) with endorsement from the Board certifying that you are eligible for Diploma study at a tertiary institution.

Advanced Diploma in Dermal Aesthetics (NQF Level 7)
(120 credits) / SAQA ID: 97898
Overview: Addresses the needs of the Somatologist working under the supervision of medical practitioners in medical aesthetic clinics to perform a larger array of treatments.
Duration: 1 Year, Distance Learning
Admission Requirements: A three-year Diploma (NQF Level 6, 360 credits) or equivalent qualification in a related field.

At Isa Carstens Academy, we have a wide variety of Short Learning Programmes you can choose from to learn a new skill, add to your existing list of skills or to obtain a professional qualification in a specific field.

Faculties

The Isa Carstens Academy offers two residences. One at each of our campuses. The Stellenbosch residence is centrally situated close to all amenities and approximately five minutes’ walk to the Isa Carstens Academy, whist the Pretoria Residences are situated on campus.

Both campuses offer luxury, furnished student accommodation in a safe and secure environment.

Space is limited, we encourage prospective students to apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
